Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of MeatSmokingCalculator.com, its calculators, planners, emails, calendar exports, and related services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by the operator of MeatSmokingCalculator.com ("we," "us," "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What the Service Is — and Is Not
The Service provides planning estimates and general educational information about cooking meat: schedules, times, temperatures, and technique guidance. It is a planning aid, not a substitute for your own judgment, your equipment's behavior, or a food thermometer.
The Service does not guarantee food safety or cooking outcomes. Actual cooking times and results vary with equipment, fuel, weather, altitude, meat composition, and technique. You are solely responsible for safely handling, cooking, and serving food, including verifying doneness with a calibrated food thermometer and following official guidance such as USDA food-safety recommendations (see our Food Safety Disclaimer).
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service and at least 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to create an account or submit content.
3. Accounts
When accounts are offered: you are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your access method secure. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time; some content you published may remain per Section 5.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to: (a) use the Service to violate any law; (b) probe, disrupt, overload, or circumvent security or rate limits; (c) scrape or bulk-extract Service content or data except as permitted by a public API or written consent; (d) misrepresent your identity or affiliation; (e) submit content you don't have rights to; (f) attempt to manipulate, "jailbreak," or extract prompts from any AI feature of the Service.
5. User Content (Community Recipes and Submissions)
When submission features are offered:
(a) Your license to us. You retain ownership of content you submit ("User Content"). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (e.g., reformat, generate preview images), publish, and display your User Content in connection with operating and promoting the Service, including after account deletion for content you chose to publish publicly (you may request removal; see (e)).
(b) Your responsibility. You represent that your User Content is yours to share, is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and does not infringe any third party's rights.
(c) Community recipes are not ours. User-submitted recipes are labeled as community content. We do not test, endorse, or guarantee community recipes. Automated checks (including AI-assisted review) screen submissions against basic food-safety rules, but these checks are aids, not assurances; a recipe passing them is not a representation that it is safe or will succeed.
(d) Moderation. We may screen, edit metadata of, decline, or remove User Content at our discretion, including content that fails safety screening, is unlawful, deceptive, infringing, or off-topic. We are not obligated to monitor.
(e) Removal. You may unpublish your User Content at any time. Cached or shared copies (including third-party embeds and search caches) may persist beyond our control.
6. AI Features
Parts of the Service use artificial intelligence to draft, review, or explain cooking information. AI output can be wrong. AI-generated or AI-assisted content is provided for convenience and is subject to the same disclaimers as the rest of the Service: always verify with a thermometer and official food-safety guidance. You agree not to attempt to manipulate AI features (Section 4(f)).
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, text, data compilations, and trademarks, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the Service as intended. Recipe *facts* (ingredients, times, temperatures) are not protected by copyright; our expression, compilations, software, and branding are.
8. Third-Party Links and Affiliate Disclosure
The Service may link to third-party sites and products. Some links are affiliate links: we may earn a commission if you purchase through them, at no additional cost to you. We link only to products we consider genuinely useful, but we are not responsible for third-party sites, products, or their claims.
9. Emails
Plan emails are one-time transactional messages you request. Optional tips emails require separate opt-in and can be unsubscribed at any time. See our Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY TIME, TEMPERATURE, SCHEDULE, OR TECHNIQUE PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE (INCLUDING AI FEATURES AND COMMUNITY RECIPES) IS ACCURATE, SAFE, OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR EQUIPMENT OR INGREDIENTS.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: (a) WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL; (b) WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY ILLNESS, INJURY, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING FROM FOOD PREPARED IN CONNECTION WITH THE SERVICE, INCLUDING RELIANCE ON ANY ESTIMATE, RECIPE, OR AI OUTPUT; AND (c) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF US $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; these apply to the fullest extent permitted.
12. Indemnification
You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your User Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.
13. DMCA / Copyright Complaints
Send infringement notices to the site operator at [email protected]. We will respond consistent with the DMCA, including removal and repeat-infringer termination where appropriate.
14. Changes to the Service or Terms
We may modify or discontinue features at any time. We may update these Terms; material changes will be posted with a new effective date, and continued use constitutes acceptance.
15. Governing Law; Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the U.S. state in which the operator resides, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in that state, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
16. Miscellaneous
If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stands. These Terms plus referenced policies are the entire agreement. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a business transfer.
